Father-Son Relationship

In the concluding pages of Night, Eliezer’s father is dying a slow, painful death in Buchenwald. But Eliezer is there to comfort him, or at least to try. Does Eliezer see his father as a burden by this point, or does he feel only pity and sorrow for him? Compare and contrast the father-son relationship you see at the end of this memoir with the one you saw at the beginning.

  1. i think that, Eliezer at this point, feels burdened by his father. He had seee so many crule things thatstayed with him which made him duodt everything he belives in like god, peace, love, tenderness, happiness and more.It was a doggy eat dogworld and relationships were going to take the nowhere. Also Eliezer might have had mixed feelings for his father from the very start. Befoe the holocaust started everyone was mostly happy with thier family, but near the end sons were beating thier fathers for food or abanding thier fathers to stay alive.I can safely say that Eliezer only pitied his father so that's why he took care of him.

  2. I agree with Yffka. In the end he only pitted his father. Being in a concentration camps changed Eliezer. Eliezer and his dad never understood each other and now knowing he is dying Eliezer is trying to make up for it. I think that he is sacrafising his food rations just to be there for his father. I think that Eliezer is aware of the fact that sons are leaving fathers just for food. I think he knows that, that is why he helped him till the very end. I feel that Eliezer does not want to end up like the rest.

  4. I agree with both beatrice and yffka. like beatrice said, they never really understood eachother. When the sons noticed that they were going to die they started stealing from their own fathers;not only steal but also BEAT. Eliezer pitted his father at the end because he was dying. Eliezer is not like all the others because he helped his father throughout everything. They should have been closer before all this not just because he is dying( that is the only reason eliezer is being all caring and stuff to his father). if they were closer they would have maded it further than others because most likely they would have shared and stuff.

  5. i agree with beatrice yffka and nicolette because Elizer was only caring for his father in the end, since his father was there for him through the beginning. so Elizer shared his food with his father so he would not die so quickly. Like nicolette said he was not like the others thinking of people not as there friends or family and they really should have should there care for each other before the concentration camp

  6. i agree with everyone. at the beginning they did not really understand each other. for example when his father asked him why he weeps Elizer was getting aggravated because he did not have an answer. at the end Elizer was being compassionate ans nice by giving his sickly father food and care.
